What holidays does Modern Waste Systems observe?
Modern Waste Systems does not run on the following holidays:
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
- New Year's Day
All pickups after the holiday will be delayed one (1) day. All pickups will be caught up by the following Saturday.
Does Modern Waste Systems collect yard clippings or other yard waste?
Effective March 28, 1995, Modern Waste Systems can no longer pickup the following:
- Grass
- Leaves
- vegetables or other garden debris
- Shrubbery
- Tree trimmings less than 4 feet and two inches in diameter that can be converted into compost humus
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will enforce Public Act 264 (Yard Trimmings Diversion Act). A free drop off is available for our customers at Modern Waste System offices at 7245 S. Brooklyn Rd. in Napoleon.

Modern Waste Systems office is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
